Quinto Distrito de la Ciudad de Tucson

El domingo 5 de noviembre, durante la edición 2023 del almuerzo de reconocimiento a los veteranos que tuvo lugar en el Kay-Cee Club, 601 S. Tucson Blvd., se reconoció a sesenta y tres exmiembros de las fuerzas armadas de nuestro país. Los participantes fueron elegidos por la ciudadanía para agradecerles por servicio al país.
La doceava edición del almuerzo fue posible gracias a la coordinación de su servidor y su equipo, con el apoyo de donativos, evitamos utilizar el dinero de los contribuyentes. Muchísimas gracias al personal del quinto distrito: Lupita Robles, Mark Kerr, Mary Kuchar y Daniel Conorque por su excelente trabajo.
Quiero agradecer a los senadores Kristen Sinema y Mark Kelly, al congresista Raúl Grijalva, al congresista Juan Ciscomani, a la gobernadora de Arizona Katie Hobbs, a los supervisores del Condado Pima Adelita Grijalva, Rex Scott, y el Dr. Matt Heinz. También quiero agradecer a la alcaldesa de Tucson Regina Romero, quien se nos unió haciendo entrega de certificados de reconocimiento a los sesenta y tres veteranos. Por mi parte, el quinto distrito hizo entrega de monedas militares.
En su discurso a los veteranos Matthew Langseth, veterano de 21 años en el ejército de los EE.UU., habló sobre Skillbridge Program de la Ciudad Tucson, el cual da empleo a los veteranos de la ciudad. Por su parte, el supervisor del condado de Pima Rex Scott y la concejal del cuarto distrito Nikki Lee, también presentes, aprovecharon la oportunidad para agradecer a los veteranos por servir al país, y también agradecer a sus familias por el apoyo y el sacrificio.
Entre los participantes se encuentran el exsupervisor del Condado de Pima Dan Eckstrom, como maestro de ceremonias; Little Mexico se encargó del menú; The Kay cee club permitió el uso de sus instalaciones sin fines de lucro; Jerry Neely aportó la música; Monique Loya interpretó el himno nacional; American Legion Yoemi Post 125, bajo el comando del comandante José Hernadez, Desert View High Junior ROTC y el comandante Robert Jaramillo, participaron con la formación de la escolta. Quiero agradecerles a todos los involucrados por sus contribuciones, así como PPEP y al Dr. John Arnold y Roberto G Ruiz por sus donativos para el almuerzo de este año y a la organización Southern Arizona Individual Leadership.
El jueves 9 de noviembre, entregué tarjetas de agradecimiento a veteranos y al personal de Southern Arizona V.A. Hospital. Estas tarjetas fueron hechas por niños de veintitrés escuelas del condado Pima, incluyendo Tucson. Fueron más de 4,100 tarjetas y cartas de agradecimiento a los veteranos y al personal del hospital. Ward 5 Update

On Sunday, November 5, 63 active and retired veterans were recognized for their service during the 2023 Veterans Recognition Luncheon that was held at the Kay-Cee Club, 601 S. Tucson Blvd. These individuals were nominated by their fellow citizens to thank them for serving our nation.
I along with my staff coordinated the twelfth annual event, which was done not at taxpayer expense, but through private donations. A big thanks to the Ward 5 staff: Lupita Robles, Mark Kerr, Mary Kuchar and Daniel Conorque for their work.
I want to thank U.S. Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly, Congressman Raul Grijalva, Congressman Juan Ciscomani, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, Pima County Supervisors Adelita Grijalva, Rex Scott, and Dr. Matt Heinz, as well as Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, who joined us in presenting the 63 honorees Certificates of Appreciation to the veterans for their service. I also gave Ward 5 Military Coins to the honorees.
During the event, twenty-one year Army veteran Matthew Langseth delivered the keynote address, talking about the City of Tucson Skillbridge Program, which hires veterans for city employment, and Pima County Supervisor Rex Scott and Tucson Ward 4 Council Member Nikki Lee spoke to those in attendance, thanking them for their service and accompanying family members for their support and sacrifice.
Among the contributors are retired Pima County Supervisor Dan Eckstrom, who emceed the event, Little Mexico catered the luncheon; The Kay-Cee club provided the venue; Jerry Neely provided the music; Monique Loya performed the National Anthem; American Legion Yoemi Post 125, under the command of Commander Jose Hernandez; the Desert View High Junior ROTC and Commander Robert Jaramillo provided the color guard. I want to express thanks to all who took part and contributed to the event, as well as PPEP and Dr. John Arnold and Roberto G. Ruiz, for their donations to put on this year’s tribute luncheon, and Southern Arizona Individual Leadership (SAIL) for their support.
On Thursday, November 9, I made my Ward 5 fourteenth annual delivery of thank you cards and letters to veterans and the staff at the Southern Arizona V.A. Hospital. These cards and letters were made by school kids from 23 schools across Tucson and Pima County. Twenty-three schools made more than 4,100 thank you cards and letters to the Veterans and staff at the V.A. The schools were:
