I want to wish everyone and their families and friends a Happy New Year.
It has been an honor and privilege serving as your Councilmember for Tucson’s Ward 5.
During my time on the Council a lot has happened and we have faced many challenges, but as I have said, “when times are tough, Tucsonans roll up their sleeves and come together to solve the issue.”
It has been a pleasure working with my colleagues on the Council as well as with the constituents, neighborhoods and businesses in Ward 5, the City of Tucson, Pima County, the State of Arizona and our national elected officials on the issues at hand.
The Mayor and Council has worked to get Tucson through the dark economic tunnel that we’ve been in since the Great Recession.
I want to thank Jonathan Rothschild for his eight years of service as Tucson’s Mayor, and Shirley Scott, for her 24 years of service and dedication as the Councilmember for Tucson’s Ward 4. Their knowledge, leadership and expertise will be missed.
I want to congratulate Regina Romero, the first woman and Latina to be the Mayor of our city since 1875. I look forward to working with Mayor Romero to build a solid future for our community. I also want to congratulate Lane Santa Cruz and Nikki Lee for their election to the Council, for Ward 1 and Ward 4 respectively and look forward to working with you and for our city.
When I was sworn into office, I got the message voters sent in terms of what was needed: reforming city government, economic development and creating jobs.
During my time as your Ward 5 Councilmember, I have worked to create more than 10,000 jobs for various businesses and to provide many opportunities to live work and raise a family and
I am continuing my work to create more job opportunities in the new year.
This new year will provide many new opportunities and my work continues for you, the good citizens of Ward 5 and Tucson.
Lets make this new year a good one.
