Rio Rico, Az.Checo Pérez finalizó en la tercera posición el Gran Premio de China, en una carrera en la que el mexicano y Red Bull perdieron ante la buena estrategia de McLaren y Lando Norris, quien dio cuenta del tapatío para evitar un nuevo 1-2 en la temporada del equipo más dominante de la categoría. Max Verstappen logró su cuarto triunfo del año.
Checo luchó durante toda la tarde en Shanghái, en una carrera en la que se presentaron dos safeties cars. Al inicio de carrera, el de Jalisco resultó perdedor, ya que al llegar a la primera curva se vio tapado por Max Verstappen y esto fue aprovechado por Fernando Alonso para arrebatarle la segunda posición.

Con más de 15 vueltas por delante en carrera parecía que Checo tendría el escenario ideal para atacar y buscar la segunda posición. El mexicano logró recortar hasta dos segundos el gap entre ambos, pero el británico dejó acercarse al mexicano de forma intencional para hacer gestión de neumáticos y cuando se lo propuso volvió a ampliar el tiempo entre ambos.
