Rio Rico, Az.-En una noche histórica para el boxeo y en especial el mexicano, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez retuvo el título de campeón indiscutible de las 168 libras al derrotar por decisión unánime a su compatriota Jaime Munguía en la T-Mobile Arena de la ciudad de las Vegas, NV en el marco de las celebraciones por el Cinco de Mayo.

Los tres imparciales designados Tim Cheatham, David Sutherland y Steve Weisfeld votaron 117-110, 116-111 y 115-112, respectivamente, a favor de Canelo, quien de esta manera aumentó su récord absoluto de defensas exitosas de campeonatos indiscutido.
Esta fue la séptima vez que Álvarez encabezó una pelea titular el fin de semana del Cinco de Mayo, y la primera vez ante un compatriota (derrotó a Julio César Chávez Jr. en una pelea sin título en 2017).

Rio Rico, Az.-On a historic night for boxing and especially Mexican boxing, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez retained the title of undisputed 168-pound champion by defeating his compatriot Jaime Munguía by unanimous decision in the T-Mobile Arena in the city of Las Vegas, NV as part of the Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
The three designated impartials Tim Cheatham, David Sutherland and Steve Weisfeld voted 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112, respectively, in favor of Canelo, who thus increased his absolute record of successful undisputed championship defenses.
This was the seventh time Álvarez headlined a title fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend, and the first time against a compatriot (he defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. in a non-title fight in 2017).
