Río Rico, AZ., La temporada 2025-2026 del básquetbol de los Arizona Wildcats quedará grabada como una de las más importantes en la historia del programa.
Desde antes de iniciar, el equipo dirigido por Tommy Lloyd se sentía diferente desde el primer bote del balón. Generaba altas expectativas, no solo por su ranking inicial dentro del Top 13, sino por la llegada de talento joven de alto impacto como Koa Peat, Brayden Burries, Ivan Kharchenkov, Dwayne Aristode, entre otros.
Y es que lo de Arizona no fue crecimiento progresivo…fue impacto inmediato, golpes de autoridad desde el arranque, en las primeras semanas, los Wildcats firmaron victorias ante equipos rankeados que marcaron el rumbo de la temporada:
- Florida Gators
- UCLA Bruins
- UConn Huskies
- Auburn Tigers
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Houston Cougars
Entre otras victorias que no solo llamaron la atención, mandaron un mensaje claro a todo el país: Arizona venía por todo !!!
La racha que cambió la conversación:
El equipo encontró ritmo, identidad y confianza, y entonces vino lo impensable: 23 victorias consecutivas para iniciar la temporada (23-0). Una racha que colocó a Arizona en la conversación nacional, no como sorpresa… sino como favorito legítimo al campeonato. Durante ese tramo, Arizona se mantuvo como el equipo rankeado #1 del país durante varias semanas consecutivas, sosteniendo la presión y respondiendo en cada escenario.
Porque no era solo ganar, era hacerlo semana tras semana, bajo los reflectores, con todos intentando derribarlos, y nadie pudo hacerlo en ese arranque perfecto.
Dominio total en el Big 12
En su segundo año dentro del Big 12, Arizona no solo compitió… arrasó !!!
- Campeones del rol regular
- Récord de conferencia: 16-2
- Campeones del torneo del Big 12
El título se selló con autoridad, confirmando que Arizona era el mejor equipo de la conferencia y uno de los mejores del país. La victoria en la final ante Houston (79-74) terminó por consolidar una temporada dominante.
March Madness: confirmación de grandeza
En el torneo de la NCAA, Arizona fue sembrado como #1 en la región West y jugó como tal, Su camino al Final Four fue contundente:
- Primera ronda: Long Island Sharks
- Segunda ronda: Utah State Aggies
- Sweet Sixteen: Arkansas Razorbacks
- Elite Eight: Purdue Boilermakers
Ese último triunfo no solo significó avanzar, significó el regreso de Arizona al Final Four.
El último reto
En semifinales, el rival fue Michigan Wolverines. el resultado no fue el esperado: derrota 91-73. Pero esta temporada no se define por ese juego, sino por el camino recorrido. Arizona terminó con récord de 36-3, el mejor en la historia del programa, compitiendo al más alto nivel del país.

El éxito colectivo también se reflejó en lo individual:

…y muchos reconocimientos más para un equipo que brilló en todos los niveles, porque al final… los grandes equipos no se recuerdan solo por lo que ganan, sino por lo que hacen sentir y este equipo de Arizona no solo ganó partidos, no solo levantó trofeos, no solo volvió al Final Four, nos devolvió la ilusión. Nos recordó lo que significa creer, competir y soñar en grande y en Tucson, eso no se olvida.

Even before it began, the team led by Tommy Lloyd felt different from the very first bounce of the ball. Expectations were high—not only because of their initial Top 13 ranking, but also due to the arrival of high-impact young talent such as Koa Peat, Brayden Burries, Ivan Kharchenkov, and Dwayne Aristode, among others.
And what Arizona showed wasn’t gradual growth—it was immediate impact. Statement wins came right from the start. In the opening weeks, the Wildcats secured victories against ranked teams that set the tone for the season:
- Florida Gators
- UCLA Bruins
- UConn Huskies
- Auburn Tigers
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Houston Cougars
Along with other wins that didn’t just draw attention—they sent a clear message to the entire country: Arizona was coming for everything!!!

In their second year in the Big 12, Arizona didn’t just compete—they dominated!!!
